I use a Dremel with a 5/16 cutter and open them up. Works slick

Go in from the side, like you were drilling the hole bigger, not the direction you'd push the wire in from the top.

Just FYI a drill wont work, it catches the edge and breaks them, but the Dremel just sort of melts/grinds its way through.
