Here's a quicker solution: Tell your representatives to remove the $.54/gal import tax on ethanol from Brazil. That will drop prices quite a bit in the very near future.

There isn't a single solution to our energy problem,no one has said there was.
We need to use every tool we have available.I can't see anything positive coming from handcuffing ourselves.
There is no short term answer to this problem.Everything that we can do will take years to pay off.
So,the sooner we get on with it,the sooner we will see results.Like if we had been serious 10 years ago about developing our own resourses at home.
The Government (taxpayer) doesn't drill or foot the bill for exploring & drilling.Their job seems to be collecting money from the people that do take the risks and also getting in the way of progress.
The import tax you mention is a fine example.
