Maybe....the orig wheels "magnaflux'd" with too many weaknesses (like most of the orig mag wheels that you see for sale) and felt safer with modern wheels. Like A-Snake said, I would think the orig wheels came with the deal.
Or, if I spent a megabuck on the car, it's chump change to get a set of Sunbursts, if that's what I wanted.
As far as "sucker".... well, I'll tell you I judged this car in Concours last year, and, unless the car was "de-restored" since then... it was one fine automobile worth top dollar.

My "sucker" comment was said very tongue in cheek. Sarcasm does not come across well online.
I don't know the Canepa operation at all, but I've personally seen many people in my life try to squeeze every last buck out of anything that could be squeezed. An extra $5,000 is an extra $5,000.
While it's not $5,000, wasn't ex-Tyco exec Dennis Kozlowski who wanted to save a $1,000,000 on taxes with paintings he bought, even though he made "bazillions" of dollars.
