Like Ron, I spent mucho time up there with the Big Trees. We used to camp under them after the tomatos were finished every year...usually had 2-3 weeks before school started. In those days, you camped right around the trees at Giant Forest and Lodgepole, but now they moved the campgrounds away from the big groves because of the damage to the shallow root systems. Coastal Redwoods are a bit taller and them ugly living dead basturds (bristlecones) over in the Whites are a bit older.
Living closeby and backpacking through all these mountains sorta makes you take them for granted until you travel out of California.
