I have a 1.5" diameter bar. We took a close look at grinding one of the the 1.5" rings to fit and decided it would look so bad it would defeat the purpose of using it in the first place. Keep in mind you also have to trim the rubber grommet it sits on.
I then ordered The 2" elliptical trim ring and grommet to see how it would look, and there was just no way - it looked huge around the bar.
Finish Line was very gracious, as always, about accepting them all back as returns.
You may have better luck, or a different opinion. In any case, good luck with it.
