Granted our political leaders have their heads up their a$$es, but a lot of the problem lies with all of us, (but not me
).
The problem is that we live in a society today where the masses believe that it is all about "ME" "ME" "ME". The prevailing attitude is: "Whatever is best for me personally is the right thing to do". So, our government (as messed up as it is), is scrambling to make right all of the things that we as the masses of society have screwed up and exploited for our own personal short term gain.
How about some values such as:
- What is the RIGHT thing to do
- What is best in the long term
- What impact will this have on others
- I need to put my instant gratification behind prudence, discipline and integrity
Until we as a society get this, we will always be screwed. Our government cannot begin to compensate for millions of people with self serving, unethical values that are focused on immediate gain for "ME" at the expense of all else. In the old days people got this, and society and government generally worked pretty well.
