Take the long way? Never.
I actually took a ride for about 3 hours on a day last year where I took every 3rd right turn followed by the 3rd left followed by the 3rd right .....
Really got interesting driving down roads even when they had a "Dead End" sign. Boy, did I get lost for about 30 minutes during the ride, but it was a great waste of gasoline.
