Actually not a bad idea at all.
I didn't learn until 1000 miles into ownership that my linkage was set so that my foot on the firewall = 80% WOT. After I saw how fast it was when adjusted, I thought to myself, "damn, I would not have been ready for that previously."
That big, wood steering wheel can be a bit slick and cumbersome so take some time and get used to it.
