It is largely due to economy of scale. The GM products sell in far greater
numbers than the Ford or Ford-based products do. Although the SB Chev
was long ago replaced by the GEN III and its derivatives in motor vehicle
applications, the older engine is still sold for industrial and marine applications
as well as the automotive aftermarket. Ford simply never had a large share
in that market.
