I would have to think that the 2 gallons of volume in the pan has some effect on the actual operating temperature.

When the oil drains back and mixes with the crankase it has to be a few degrees below block temps.

How much can't answer that however I do know my engine temps in summer usually run 85 to 90C and the oil temps run about 80C.

Last weekend on the Rallye my engine temps ran 80 to 85C and the oil temps never exceeded 60C. The outside temperature was 58 degrees F.

And my oil temp switch is on the side of the oil pan.
