Unhappy Big motors....

Both the NHRA and IHRA limit bore spacing on these engines to 5" or less.
This places a limit on bore size so the large displacement has to be accomplished by using very long stroke cranks in a raised deck block.
The result being that these monster motors are very undersquare. Since
longevity is not a factor in building drag race motors, these motors can be
made to work. It would be rather difficult to build a streetable motor in
this configuration that would last a reasonable amount of time before a rebuild was
necessary. Since the bore size limitation also restricts valve size as well,
you have to put as much camshaft timing into them as is possible to make
them aspirate well. Building such an engine with a milder streetable camshaft
would probably make the additional displacement fairly useless.
