It's the 'free lunch' part that I take exception too - the 'secret' primarily has one thinking stuff up and that stuff appears.

The truth is, No electromagnetic waves emanate from your head, magically transforming the universe. No mystical vibrations affect your surroundings. Changing your thinking does not change the quantum states of objects around you in any reliable, useful way. The universe doesn’t stand ready to fulfill your every wish.

Rather, you change yourself and THEN you change your circumstances. It works through a combination of entirely non-mystical, psychological and rational mechanisms, including confirmation bias, positive thinking and optimism.

The Secret offers precisely zero evidence that it could ever be otherwise, and instead proposes a number of mystical, unscientific and entirely unproved explanations. That’s why looking to this movie for explanations and insight will weaken your understanding of the "The Law of Attraction" and reduce your ability to successfully employ it.

For anyone interested - 'confirmation bias' is a tendency to search for or interpret new information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions and avoids information and interpretations which contradict prior beliefs. It's something to be fully aware of and is the primary reason why people cannot get off square one.

Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.
