I believe its a similar unit to the new Porsche. They have been using VNT turbos on Diesels for a while now. Petrol engines have been a problem because they run much higher exhaust temps and keeping the vanes working in that environment is a problem.

It was the banjo bolt on the turbo that worked its way loose and caused the oil leak. Keep an eye on yours.

Not any fault of the vehicle itself, just bad luck I guess.

When I stripped the turbo I found one broken blade on the turbine wheel. That may have caused vibration that worked the oil feed loose but I doubt it.

I found a good turbo diesel mechanic near by. I was quoted about $1200 to rebuild the turbo or $1800 to buy a new VNT. It was a fairly easy decision to make. You'll have to take it for a spin when it's done to compare.
