Remember that in some states having an original block is a "get-out-of-jail-free-card" for emissions. Yes, I know that some of the new blocks have numbers that can fool lazy inspectors, but if you live in a state that sets your emission levels as of the block date you're nuts if you don't use an original FE (IMHO, that is ). And a NOS SO is about as good as it gets. I would be surprised if there was anybody out there that has a "new FE block" and that can actually pass their state's emissions laws. (Pulling the DP and replacing it with a lean single barrel carb doesn't count.)
