I am also a Gforce/Astro dealer as well as a couple of companies you probably haven't heard of. We do use different parts for different uses but the single biggest reason ours last is the guy who builds them. Travis runs LR East and is the best trans builder I have ever seen. He's worked with me for almost 10 years and is incredibly talented.
I have also found that the type of clutch is really important. Most 10.5" clutches can't take high RPM abuse for long and most trans failures we can track down to the clutch. This is one of the reasons for the development of out superlite clutch and flywheel systems.
I have T5's that have been running AI and AIX for years in Mustangs with no issues.
We built one of our SD T5's several years ago for a customer that was racing a coupe with a 302 in it. The owner upgrade to a 600+hp stroker windser and has been racing this same SD T5 for 3 years behind this engine with no problems. I really can't explain it and we never ment that trans to be used with that kind of power. He says he'll upgrade to a super alloy version from us when he blows this one up.
We have warn out T600's in half a race season behind some our our higher torque road race cars.
