What color is the car? You may be able to do other things to make it more of your likeing such as adding bumpers or quick jacks, getting the roll bar chromed or adding static cling rookie stripes, stickers or meatballs. Look for pictures of other cobras that color and see what has been added.
Flat black stripes are not going to be any cheaper then gloss black. You could have them done in gloss single stage paint and lightly wet sanded and polished. You would still feel the edge but who cares. I am pretty sure back in the day thats how they were done, I dont think the stripes were burryed in the clear so yours would be period correct. Still alot of work.
