Actually, accuracy during this (your recommended) maneuver may be key.......the Tremec has this little stubby gearshift-----vertical, unlike the slanted/canted Shelby one.......h-m-m-m-m-m.

Actually, it was my midships "anti-torpedo bulge" (a la 1908-1935 battleships) which was the problem. The stern area was/is deceptively small (waist 38-40*). Now, however the bulge is greatly diminished and/or centered longitudinally amidships---along the keel---I think everything is going to be hunky-dory......
