Read the Constitution.
Congress makes the rules regarding captures - not the President.
The 5th Amendment says "No person shall be held to answer" - it does NOT say 'No American Citizen', and this is one reason why it was stupid to take responsibility for them by holding them in the first place. If they are not a sovereign nation then they are criminals and should be tried as such.

Elevating them to a warrior status is a mistake, and only helps their cause.

No, I don't want them anywhere near me, and I didn't want my country to have any level of responsibility for them because of the problems it was going to cause in the long term.

You GOP types took 'em (and want to keep 'em) - you can all adopt one and pay for them out of your own pocket - I am not interested in paying for any more GOP stupidity. I wish GOP types would actually take some responsibility for their actions instead of trying to foist it of on others.
