Mike,
Our dog died from eating food we got from Walmart that was tainted.

The day he died our next door neighbors dog died as well. (Nothing in the yard they got to) We had the same vet (oddly) and the vet was surprised the dogs had the same symptoms.

I had already buried my dog and would not exhume him for an exam. However the neighbor did. Sure enough the poison was in the food that some was as of the time still undigested.

I was told what the dog had eaten and the lot numbers on the can. Sure enough we had fed our dog the same brand and lot number.

Before it was over the vet told us there had been over 60 dogs die from this lot number that he knew of at the time, and could verify. My dog was not counted since i refused to 'dig him up'.

Walmart refused to remove the dog food (or even the same lot number) from the shelves.

On a different note.
On two different occasions we have purchased "Sam's Choice' Ruby Red grapfruit juice. Both occasions the contents had high levels of petroleum inside the juice.

You guessed it. They refused to remove the drink from the shelves.

Edited to add:

BTW:
This incedent with the dog happened in 1992
