There's more heritage in the Corvette marque that a Ford built "replica" GT40 could ever emulate. If you want to count a significant racing heritage, Corvette's the winner there too. The GT40 was a flash-in-the-pan whilst the Vette has soldiered on for 56+ years. I like the Ford GT but when people get on their un-justified high-horses...
OBTW... the ZR1 doesn't need a tune, pulley etc to already knock down near 650 hp. It does it stock. That 6.2L has the ability to go much higher too, need be.
flame on...

While I admire the ZRI for what it is, it is still a Corvette and has such a strong family resemblance that it is not unique in appearance. The GT was not engineered to be nearly as competitive as it could be. It has a good deal of roll under steer to make it stable for unskilled drivers (most owners).
The tires are a fairly hard compound and have too high a sidewall to function really well on the stock rims (this was done for appearance sake).
It is a far superior platform however with much higher torsional stiffness than the Vette, better weight distribution and a super efficient transaxle (5% drive train loss). I have said it before but will repeat: Changing springs, revalving the shocks, adding a correct alignment along with Corvette or Viper tires and wheel sizes would make the car competitive with anything out there. The GT could have been set up that way but that was not the intent of the designers. I am also not a big fan of the modular engine but it does well for 331 inches and can produce more than adequate power with a small boost increase. Rear wheel HP on stock GT's is in the 535 range because of that efficient transaxle. These cars are speed limited to 205 MPH but will go 211-212 if the limiter is removed. Which would you rather have?
