Default It was like 1965 all over again......

I spent the weekend with my CVAR vintage racing buddies at Texas World Speedway this past weekend. During the P&Q Saturday morning one of the GT350's 289 started loosing water. After 15 minutes of discussion, the decision was check compression (which exposed a leaking cylinder) then to tear the engine down to replace both head gaskets. So in a period of 4 hours before the next race, including a 30 minute down pour (under a tent), four guys pulled, cleaned, polished, replaced, torqued, assembled and started that bad boy back up.............(OK, it was really 4 1/2 hours and he missed the next race, but did run the next one after.......it just sounds better if he did).

It was really a great sensation. All that was missing was the Speed Channel cameras and matching shirts. Spectators walking by with cameras and camcorders, competitors helping with tools and non-helpful advice, other laying down cash betting if we would make it or not ....... Hooray for club racing camaraderie.

I wasn't around racing in '65, but those of you who were, it must have been the same excitement.
