Well it all depends on your philosophy - leave it off, pay the ticket etc, or put it on to remove an easy reason to be pulled over. I have been hassled in Iowa about front plates so I use them. I tried several of the side mounted ones that variously attach to frame, quick jack and/or blinker light, didn't like any of 'em. I came up with a simple center attachment that yes, obstructs air to the oil cooler, but I don't track my car and have seen zero difference in temps.
