Thanks for all the info. I hadn't thought about the crossmember being non-removable. Ugh. I wonder if I've got enough room to pull the engine forward to get enough clearance w/o having to remove it completely - I'd like to avoid removing the the header tubes which I think I'd have to do to take the engine completely out. I'll have to look this evening.
Modifying the crossmember sounds daunting. I would like to see pics.
Since my 351C is rather mild, I went with the older TR3550 instead of a TKO500/600. The input and output shaft spline counts (10/28) should be the same as the top loader. It's also my understanding that the Tremec will bolt right up to my current bellhousing.
