Back in 1998, after having done considerable research into buying a Cobra, I had decided on an ERA. I felt without a doubt that it was the best available car at that time.
Not long after making my decision, I found a used one for sale at Park Place which also happened to sell Superformance cars. Well I went to look at the ERA, and it was a POS. The body was cocked on the frame so bad, that the tire to wheel well clearance at the front and rear was off by 1.5 inches. The wiring looked to have been done by a 5 year old. It was painted black, and to tell you the truth, I believe I could have done a better job with a paint brush and then sanding it smooth.
The point I'm trying to make is that builder "A" can buy the best kit available, and because of lack of experience, or just because he does not care, turn out a piece of crap car like I looked at in 1998. On the other hand, builder "B" can buy a cheap kit, but through hard work and paying close attention to all the minor details, can end up with a true piece of art.
When a car is built by an individual, the outcome will always reflect the effort that was put into it by the builder, not necessarily the quality, or price of the kit that it started from.
