Yeah, check the coil. Get your DMM and test the voltage on the - and + poles. Jump in and drive around until it dies. Verify that it won't start right up, test the output on the coil again. I'll bet you on either the + or - poles you get the wrong voltage.

Make sure if you have an oil filled coil it is standing upright in it's mount, not laying on it's side.
