I use a weighted fabric mount that simply sits on the transmission tunnel..........almost under the dash so it doesn't get too wet in the rain.
The standard Garmin Nuvi bracket attaches to the mount with a suction cup.
It has worked well.
I keep an Atlas in the trunk and a selection of maps in a plastic bag in the door/map pockets.
Sometimes I enjoy getting lost and sometimes I don't.
