That is a real common problem in that turn. The best viewing at PIR is the stands just past the chicane on the inside. You can see all the action in turn 1 (the one in the picture) as the drivers are braking off the long front straight at very high speeds to a VERY slow speed chicane corner.
A couple years ago, an original GT40 and Parker Johnstone's IMSA national champion Acura open wheel car had a terrific duel for several laps, but especially exciting as they came down the front stretch flat out, then tried to beat each other to/through this corner. Great racing until I think the GT40 driver finally lost his nerve and decided not to trash his valuable racer.
BTW, that Corvette is no slouch in the historic races each year. As you can see in the pics, it just plain gets real crowded in that corner early in the race before the cars get spread out a bit.
