PUCO issues opinion and order in FirstEnergy electric distribution rate case
COLUMBUS, OHIO (Jan. 21, 2009) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) today granted FirstEnergy’s application to increase the rates it charges for electric distribution service.
In its application, FirstEnergy requested an increase in revenues of $338,000,000. The Commission today granted the company an increase in revenues of nearly $137,000,000.
The Commission authorized a rate of return of 8.48 percent for each of FirstEnergy’s operating companies. This will result in a revenue increase of $68,918,262 for Ohio Edison, $29,172,051 for Cleveland Electric Illuminating and $38,520,912 for Toledo Edison.
The increase in FirstEnergy’s distribution rates represents an approximate average increase to a residential customer’s total bill of 4 percent for Ohio Edison, 2 percent for Cleveland Electric Illuminating and 7 percent for Toledo Edison, based on an average residential customer using 750 kWh per month.
