Something to think about is the use of an automatic vs a revolver. Having carried both, the auto is generally easier to carry however, in the heat of a situation, you have to remember to take the safety off. I've seen a few videos where the victim is squeezing the trigger on his weapon and nothing is happening. Revolvers usually don't have that issue if they're double action.
Just make sure you train with it either way.
