The main stream news show I watched showed a late 1980's Mustang GT. It looked to be in good shape. They drained the
oil and added silica sand. Started it and let it lock up. They took the radio and some electronics off. Then smashed it with a back hoe. The woman running the yard said it was a huge loss to them as they were not allowed to sell hardly any parts.
My memory is not perfect. I may have something wrong here. Also I have caught the news media intentionally misslead and miss use words so many times to get sensation or a political point, I no longer trust anything they show.
If what I seen was true, it is a waste. Getting a car off the road is one thing, but not salvaging the parts is another. Getting that car off the road may save gasoline, but destroying its engine rather than reusing it does not (unless if forces a second car to be junked - but it could be rebuilt).
Maybe Fox body Mustang values will go up if very many are destroyed. I would consider them a future car show classic.
