At some point they file bankruptcy to wipe the slate clean, and eventually go on medicare/medicaid. It's not the medical bills themselves that cause the bankruptcy, it's the loss of their job and their health insurance that leads to mounting bills and bankruptcy. That's what I see, over and over.
