The limit on gears is usually torque, not horsepower. If you can find out what the limit is for torque and match it to your engine output through each transmission gear as the input torque to the differential. This would be ideal, if you can find the information.

However, traction at the wheels is also limiting on some Cobra's, so you can not develop the max. torque input to the differential (wheel spin). On some applications this is what saves the differential gears and transmissions, IMO.
