Bob, sometimes events reach a crescendo that requires an extra dose of "security" or some other reasonable response to avoid making a bad situation worse. Such is the case with the town hall meetings.
The idea of people showing ID came up after it was confirmed a certain group of people attended four such meetings with the specific goal of disruption (shout out's, etc.). It was determined that this group would NOT be allowed to attend a fifth meeting, unless they were actually from that district. A reasonable response to an organization whose purpose was clear, disrupt the meetings.
I cannot attend neighborhood meetings for an HOA, for instance, unless I'm member of that group. Nor do I want non-owners attending MY HOA meetings either. ID may be required if there is a doubt, a reasonable precaution.
