Oops.....I'm only familiar with irridite on aluminum. On steel, the protective coating I've seen the most was Cad plating, and the white "fur"/powder was identified as some sort of Cadmium oxide and said to be very dangerous....i.e. wash your hands before eating if you've handled it.

Glad it's not. Sorry to scare anyone.
