You're right, Roscoe. These agents don't produce anything. They are something like the guy in the rowboat (management) that calls cadence but doesn't add to the rowing.

Only instead of calling cadence the agent watches the crew (labor) so they don't commit mutiny, watches the management so they don't work the crew to death, and watches for pirates that could threaten the whole boat (owned by the lazy stockholders).

The way I see it, it isn't so much what goverment agents do, as what they prevent.

Course, too many agents and the boat gets a little heavy to row ...and freeboard a bit tight during acts of God (waves) ...same as too much management.

So I guess we might share a "row or get off the boat" philosophy.
