Perfect kit is the Edelbrock 70001 carb plate system. It comes with 50/75/100HP jetting and the solenoids can support additional jetting at 125HP if you felt that was needed. The 50HP setting gets you very familiar with the timing of how the nos comes on,how your car reacts etc then you can decide to move to 75HP. 75HP is a terrific setting and requires only 3 degrees timing taken which can be afforded with minimal consequence OR you can have the timing retard itself with MSD add ons. The EDL systems are extremely efficient often resulting in MORE than advertised HP. Mine dynoed an 89HP gain on 75HP jetting. Then it dynoed 104HP gain on 100HP jetting...both to the tires. How much your motor gains depends on cylinder heads, cam internals and compression. I am running 11:1 forged pistons with no issues using 100HP nos on 93 octane fuel taking out 4 degrees timing. Been doing this for 7 years with no issues. If you want to do it right with your light Cobra you could consider more than just the kit. Sometimes you may just want the burst in
3rd/4th gears or perhaps you may want to control the rpm on/off....if you shift at 6500 you can have the juice come on anywhere (ie: 4000rpm) and stop flowing at 6400rpm in case you miss. Talking MSD....this is done with a MSD "Window Switch" which is plug n play to your MSD Ignition. The nos comes on at WOT. you can further control this feauture using a "button" or a "Hurst Anti-Roll" ( also used for Line-Lock) switch mounted just below your shifter knob. Another good feauture is a $30 " Low Fuel pressure" sensor which plumbs inline to your nos fuel feed line. If Fuel psi drops below 5.5psi ( usually regulated at 6.5 psi thru your carb fuel regulator) the switch disconnects the ground and stops both fuel and nitrous spray. I've never needed this but it's nice to know it's there. A nitrous "bottle heater" ($130) is sold by EDL which ensures all stays at the right psi on that end when outside temps are below mid 70's. Also..EDL sells a "purge valve" ($100) which releases air from the lines prior to use and makes for fun convo at a red light ! Otherwise if not purged the nos will delay , perhaps for half a gear before it hits the carb...purging can be done that way but the valve is way better.
Timing retard is controlled by an MSD " Auto Start/Retard Box" . Mine is not hooked to the nitrous arming switch but to the 'button" in my car. When the system is ON , button pressed timing is instantly retarded 4 degrees before the gas hits the carb. It's foolproof once installed correctly and allows you to drive around 99% of the time with full timing on your motor. All told figure $1000 for the $500 kit plus all the extras ( if you choose to go that way) and a weekend's work. Any race shop could do the job for around $400 labor. If you just go for 50Hp you can simply use the kit for $500 and stop there, manually taking out 2 degrees timing youself. The EDL manual is laid out with very simple illustrations for system install. EDL tech Line is 800-416-8628. This may sound like much info...but it's really not if you list all the "goodies" lay them out and begin install together. Again...50HP requires nothing but timing out for $500. Good luck !
