Default SPF Side Pipe Collector

Ok, I have read all the posts about replacing the restrictive side pipes in order to let my engine breathe properly.

However, I have a couple of choices to make. First, do I cut the existing pipes at the muffler and simply weld in a 3" replacement muffler (keeping the cost waaaay down), or do I have to cut the pipes at the junction of the four pipes and the collector and replace that too?

I guess what I'm asking is: Is there going to be a flow problem with the existing collector into the "new" larger muffler, or should I just remove the old side pipe entirely and replace it with a complete new unit from one of the vendors (most expensive).

Will the existing collectors screw up the exhaust flow into the new larger mufflers?
