Funny you asked, I had Southern Automotive build my FE. I suggested that they paint the block "red". Bill Parham (owner of SA) said, " Carrol Shelby never painted a block red". He then said, I'll paint your block any color you want it, but originals weren't red..they were black". Bill then sent me pictures of several differeent colors of FE engines including a red one.
Well, I went with black block, alum. heads and water pump and it looks very original with the red bellhousing.
Point is, Bill Parham was was right.
