Default Fuel pressure regulator/Isolator location in engine bay

What is the best location to install a fuel pressure regulator/isolator? My gauge is in the cabin and the current regulator/isolator is tie wrapped to the two heater hoses. I have noticed a jump in pressure from the usual 5-7 lbs to 10+ after a bit of driving. The regulator/isolator is an Autometer 5820. Since the pressure gauge is in the cabin it is filled with anti-freeze from the isolator output to the pressure gauge inlet. When the pressure rises, the throttle response seems to be sluggish.
