Default And another newbie!

In reading Wahoo's post just s few days ago, I gotta say ditto to that, and I'm also very happy to have found this place. I've been a huge fan of homebuilt (experimental class) aircraft, and perhaps one day I'll get around to building that Titan Tornado I've been dreaming about. I subscribe to KitPlanes mag, and for a long time I've always wondered about the similarities between kit planes and kit cars, whenever my eyes would pass across the KitCar ad that appears in every issue of KitPlane. Well, I happened to see a copy of KitCar in a mag rack, so I picked it up and immediately was bitten at the sight of all those beautiful Cobras! Man! Sooo, being somewhat of an intrepid internetter, I very soon worked my way here ( no small thanks to GeorgiaSnake for his great tip), and find myself saying "Hey y'all! My name's Art Shand, I live in Big Canoe, GA and I'm a fledgling Cobrahaulic!

Dang, but I just missed the Riverstone meet and the Helen drive! I'm right in the general area, and would have loveed to catch y'all and check out the cars. There'll be more soon, I'm sure.


So- my first question- I've tracked down that "little" place in Winder that has just a bit of stuff ala the Mustang. Ben there tells me he kits about 4 to 5 FFR drivetrains a month. It seems convenient to go the pallet route, but how does one know what condition the gear is in? In the pallet scenario, is it purdent to assume the worse and rebuild the motor et al while you can, or... what? And, not having been the one to strip the donor, am I losing an advantage with respect to the wiring harness because now I'm looking at a bundle of unlabeled wires that could very well be missing crucial wiring?

Welcome to the club. There are enough FFR guy's here to tell you anything you may need to know and a lot you probably won't want to know. Just give some of them time to log in and read your post and the answers will come fast and furious.

They have an extensive archive and FAQ for FFRs
For local help, social events, or info about other brands and comparisons between brands, this place is excellent. Mine was built with all new parts, so I can't help with your question, but there are several threads about donor-pallet-new on the other site.

Welcome Art, as expected you will get a ton of opinions here and thr FFR site as well. If you want to compare a Unique I'm only 45 minutes down the road from Big Canoe.

In a time of weakness I wavered from my commercial building and built a house up on top of Sanderlin for a friend. I think it is on the market for $720,000 now, a bit less than it cost to build 6 years ago. Check it out, it is nice.

Stay tuned to this forum for the next get together. You need to see the beast John Owen built using a FFR kit.

1st off welcome!! Work has been "h.e. double toothpicks" lately and I missed your post. I am a licensed Private Pilot with a beautiful piece of aluminum rotting away in a hanger, as I work on another piece of aluminum.

Come check out the cars...you will learn more in one event than 12 issues of KitCar magazine.
