Put the Demon on today!
Hey Tony,
Finally got the mighty demon on today. Man I didn't know this 427 stroker could run so good. This was the first time I actually got it in the secondaries. All you have to do is touch the key and it starts and idles like it is supposed to. Its probably a good thing I had the holley during breakin, it kept me from going over 4,000 rpm. I'm sold on the Barry Grant carb. Only problem is, with all the power, I found my clutch is slipping in 3rd and 4th :CRY: |
Dave, are you sure it's the clutch and not the tires? Lately, everytime I come to a stop, I smell burning rubber. I might as well start identifying my next set of tiires. Great news on the new BG. Chill got him one as well and is experiencing similar results. Hope you can make Sunday.

David, 1st off congrats. 2ndly, we need to start planning for accomodations for the Willis if you wanted the families to do something. 3rdly, why do you think it is the clutch that is slipping?

We do need to get together on accomodations. I'm just waiting to see if my daughter and her friend are going so I'll know what we will need. I'm sure the clutch is slipping. In 4th gear at 1,000 rpm, if I hit the gas, it tachs up to about 3,000, then have to back off to let it grab. I'm pretty sure I would know if the tires were spinning because these hoosiers hook up really well. I have not been able to run the car hard until yesterday, so I wasn't aware of the clutch problem. |
Dave sounds like I need to get my holley right or make the switch. I had a terrible fuel starvation problem when we had the drag event. The car nearly stopped as soon as I got in 3rd gear. It took a good 1 to 1 1/2 seconds to come back and when it did I had wheel spin like crazy, I thought it was the clutch slipping.
Randy I sure would like to get on board for the Willis, what do I need to do? Send Johan flowers or something. |
I had Bill change out the single 4 Holly for 2 4's as most of you guys know. I don;\'t think it has ever run as well as the single. And if a demon is even better maybe I ought to switch and hang the duals on the wall for nostalgia purposes :LOL:

Dave I too am thinking about the Mighty Demon had herd when you order one they tailor it to your motor ( on CC I belive) can't belive that is the case from a mail house :confused:have been looking at Summit for $500.00 %/

Alex, call Barry Grant's tech line (706)864-8544 and tell them exactly what you have including: Cam profile, CID, intake manifold, transmission type, rear end gear ratio and they will identify the carb type and configuration. They will give you a config code that you can give Bill or anyone else who sells BG. BG doesn't do retail. I gave Lewis the config code and Bill bought it as part of my engine build.

Second part of your question, yes they fit the Holley mounting profile. Barry Grant used to work for Holley and spun off to do his own thing. Supposedly, they improved upon the Holley design in a number of ways. If you go to their website, they go into considerable detail about their carbs. I spent quite a bit of time there while making up my mind which way to go. I'm very glad I went with BG.

Mr. Fixit, I've seen your posts before regarding the BG lines and personally I could care less what other people use but the truth is from where I sit is that Holley is losing some business by not matching the service/customization that BG offers internally. Secondly, the only poor review/experience I've ever read and heard has been your own regarding that 750 dp. Could it be, even possibly your friend got a faulty unit because I've had nothing but a terrific experience. In fact, we now have at least 5 to 6 conversions in the last 8 months to the BG's in the local Cobra group alone.
BTW, my BG was further customized while on the dyno to match the engine further. Any off the shelf carb would need the same but talent is required to further hone in on each combination. I always enjoy and learn from your posts so please continue.:JEKYLHYDE |
1 more vote for the Demon. I faxed BG the build sheet from Southern, they gave me the carb model #, picked it up from Garry Grimes and an hour later the car ran like I always figured it was supposed to.
Holley is generally well respected, for what its made for, and can be made to run well with some attention....but it can't compare to a custom carb, especially not right out of the box... and I don't see many engines among the posts here that aren't highly modified....being driven around in light cars... by heavy feet :D |
I'm a little late on this thread but just wanted to mention that Demon makes a great carb. I would say better than a standard Holley. If you think you are having problems with your holley & you are trying to justify a change because of it I might tend to try to convince you to fix your problem & save a few bucks unless the Demon is what you really want & somehow adds to the appeal of your car. Chances are the problem you have could still exist when you bolt up your brand new $500+/- Demon. In all reality a Demon is just a slightly more efficient Holley.
