Parham Lecture........ and I deserved it

For those of you that have followed my saga (Sunshine and $hit among others) concerning my car leaving me stranded please read the following.

I have asked for and recieved countless tips and feedback on what the hell could be wrong with my Holley. Well yesterday afternoon I took it off with the intent of fixing my problem. After removal I walked into the house to wash my hands and noticed I had missed a call from Dr. Parham.

Uh-Oh !

I called and was immediatly told "I hear you are having a problem, well let me tell you something, from what you have told the entire East Coast it sounds like the stator is bad" What I thought! "Well listen - up ninety nine percent of the time what you discribe is the stator" I won't waste space here covering the entire conversation, but for those of you that have Southern Motors - call the doctor - this man knows of what he speaks.

It took longer to get the part (NAPA moron) than it did to replace. The car runs like a top now and if it hiccups I'm doing as told - calling the doctor.

Great! Does this mean I get my 'ole Holley back?

DavidH 03-04-2004 06:01 PM

Randy,
Is this stator part of the alternator?

chill 03-04-2004 07:18 PM

One thing about you Randy... if it happens more rarely than a shark attack in Georgia, it will happen to you!!!:JEKYLHYDE

GeorgiaSnake 03-04-2004 07:45 PM

Cracker - I used your carb to experiment - should I put it back together or would your rather have the box of parts?

David - It's an internal part of the distributor - part of the conversion Bill does to make an electronic mechanical advance distributor.

Chill - Bite this :p

I was witness to most of yesterdays events as well (I was down there--as was Alex D.) and may have triggered a bit of yesterday's "goings on". The man is amazing. Randy got like 14 answers in his thread, and Bill had the answer all along. If you have a Southern motor, this is part of the value add!!!

Hey , I'm in a big hurry and have not had time to read this, but have you checked the stator ?

blykins 03-04-2004 09:21 PM

hehehe....I have a feeling "check the stator" will be the answer to a lot of things from now on....hehhee

"My tire is low on pressure..." "Did you check the stator?" hehehehe

I used tony's trailer to take my car down to Southern and met up with TC there inspecting his hemi Looking real sweet!!!! They are going to fire it next week. Bill is doing my 1400 mile service  Tony's trailer towed like a dream behind my little jeep cherokee with the little V8. With out the car in it you hardly know you have a tow.

Hope Bill checks my stator

Car trouble

Hey my GMC Jimmy is not running right. When I stand on the gas it doesn't seem to accelerate and takes forever to get to 90mph. Anyone know what the problem could be?:D

Tony Radford 03-05-2004 02:30 PM

You shouldn'tn have gone to the trouble of pulling that out of your car just to show us a picture

GeorgiaSnake 03-08-2004 07:07 PM

Alex what makes you think that is out of my car :p I pulled that out of Chills car while he was messing with his rear end:LOL:

Excaliber 03-08-2004 07:18 PM

Hmmm,,,, that stator thingy sure don't look like a Holley carb part. You WERE working on the carb right? :D

Ernie

GeorgiaSnake 03-08-2004 08:07 PM

Ernie I have been working on everything. I find parts on the floor after everything is buttoned up and it still runs good.

I once found the lockout bearing the keeps the finigan pin from contacting the johson rod on the work bench and it still runs great.
