As for power:
It's a Toyota block, messaged by Lotus with their heads and engine management system and VVTi that kicks you in the butt at 6,000 rpms. It's rated at 190hp... and the whole thing weighs 1,980 lbs. Tach shows 10k rpm, shift light comes on at 8,500rpms....(something I've already proven) which is about 2,000 rpms after Bud's internals go external :D 0-60 is 4.7... dunno about 0-100, but 1/4 is not much different from what I saw at Commerce (by mortals - JO excepted) and I had no problem hanging with a Subaru STI today until we ran out of road. %/ JO: I hereby apply for re-admission into the non-interstate runs... :( ...How about I put an extra 500 lbs in the boot? (That's British for trunk) %/ :D |
Clyde - congrats! Looks beautiful ... and me and Wendy to the list for rides
|
The Grand PooBaah committee is considering your appeal, as we do for all that have achieved the rank of exalted rubber burner. Early returns indicate Johan's Hummer, your choice, or TC AND his Cup car will be required in the boot
|
Randy, the comment was meant tongue and cheek. Btw - my Cobra weighs exactly the same weight as Chill listed his Lotus weighs and has double the rear wheel hp.
If I wanted something of that nature sitting in my garage, I would be over at RGINN's shop writing a check for that Noble M12. |

Randy How did you get your weight down - I figured an FFR was closer to 2400 lbs |
I too was only kidding - neat looking ride. Congrats!:)

Car & Driver July 04 (I think) did a comparison of 5 cars including a FFR and the Lotus. The FFR won all the acceleration test but not by as big a margin as one would expect. The Lotus won overall.
I based my guess on the info from FFR's website. I do know they are among the lightest replica's on the market. Randy |

hey bud - I thought all FFR's were alike (aside from some mad scientist named "Doc"). I will say Bud's got one of the fastest cobra's out there running a Explorer driveline.;)
|
HA! Funny! Yeah and they're all blue with white stripes too.

Chill, your car is very cool!
I always liked Lotus brand cars...
There are cobras that can run with it in the corners, however, and walk away from it in the straights. In spite of my car's weight and larger size, it has a very rigid square tube frame, very wide low profile Pirelli P-Zeros, Carrerra coil overs and roll bars front and rear. Also 50/50 weight distribution. Note the engine dyno-ed near 600 HP and 622 ft lbs of torque. No one has kept up with me in the corners, at least on the streets, so far.. of course some cars handle a skosh better but in that straight away you will lose sight of a powerful cobra  All that said, your car is a real looker and must be a blast to drive, I'm sure you are in love! :) |
During the years I have had two and 1/2 Lotus'.
LOTUS = Lots Of Trouble Ususally Serious The first was a Super Seven with a Coventry Climax engine. This was a great handling but crude car, essentially designed for autocross or racing. It made the Cobra appear to be a luxury ride if you can imagine. The second LOTUS was a used Elan. This was a very nice car. It leaked oil, liked its valves adjusted every 5000 miles and carbs adjusted for summer and winter. It liked to RUST away. The last 1/2 was a Jensen-Healey which had the Lotus engine in it. A nice high revving DOHC engine that like the Elan's was fond of valve adjustments via thin wafer shims. With the Toyota MR2 engine and drive train in your Elise, you may have a somewhat dependable ride on your hands. The Lotus if like its earlier brethern, will let you know quickly if its **** aint right. Good Luck... how is your paint? I hear they had a problem with the finish on the earlier Elise's. I hope that they got that down by now? |
Nice ride! Deb and I saw them at the Mitty. They looked really cool. congrats
|
Neat the way they sealed the underneath. Pardon my lack of knowledge. What are NACA ducts?
|
New car.....
Clyde...VERY nice. They are one of the best handling toys out there!!! I'm with John O. We will ban you from selected events where you might win. I know the wait was worth it for that beauty. Cruise up here to check out the FIA car. I would like your input. How was the weather proofing on the breeaking run?? Better than the cobra no doubt.
Good luck Rob |
Weather proofing was much better than I expected with only a few drips in the hardest rain while running 80+ (hardtop would be better than the soft top I was running) ... definitely drier than the Cobra.
As for my application, sounds like nobody thinks I need to be handicapped, even in the corners, and even some feel I should get a head start... %/ so am I back in? :D (Yes, I realize its all tongue in cheek, I wouldnt expect this group to be too serious...) Jason, Friday 6/17. |
Make sure to drive it.
|
Clyde
Hey will it get over the speed bumps in Sanctuary Park?? |
I do not have a Hummer, I have a Humvee. There is a difference !
Nice car Chill. Take us for rides ! |
