Almost smashed up the SPF today

I was driving down Wade Green road when a new shiny black Dodge Charger coming out of a gas station on my left (wanting to go the same way I was heading) pulled out into the middle (turn lane). At least, that's where I THOUGHT he was going. He pulled into the lane and then pulled right into my lane (I was actually next to him at this point...my front end was even with his front passenger door). There was no hope of stopping in time so I had to pull into the other lane FAST. Luckily there was no one in that lane. Of course, he didn't even know he'd run me out of my lane. He just looked at me like I was an idiot.

That would've ruined my Good Friday.....

Enjoy your cars...watch out for everyone else.

I'm glad you were staying alert & defensive and you and your ride are alright.
Have a Happy Easter.:)

Good driving on your part!!!

Take solace in the fact that his shiny new black Charger won't be so shiny and new looking much longer, assuming that's the way he always drives.

I always drive my Cobra like I'm riding a motorcycle...

svobud 04-14-2006 04:19 PM

I suggest that you stay away from Wade Green Rd at all costs. We're constantly working wrecks on it from Jiles to George Busbee. Very bad section thats loaded with people who have their head up their 4th point of contact.

Good move on your part, would hate to have to read about another Cobra enthusiast getting into an accident......

Suggestion -- go look at Harleys on Valentine's Day -- your wife might just buy you a Cobra - for safety's sake - then drive defensively. She looks good riding shotgun.

I wish I could...I live off it. :)

As far as the motorcycle / Harley comments, I have one and the fact I'm always looking for someone to do something is probably why he didn't actually hit me. I tell people looking at bikes all the time that you have to be SO much more alert on a bike.

I drove around the rest of the day and I have to admit....it was wonderful!

Saps,

I was gonna harass you about driving up there on the "North end", but then I took a little drive to my daughter's house in S. Fayette Co. And was almost T-boned by a little girl in a Honda! Good brake test for me, scared her as much as me, but when she waved me to go ahead I told her "No, you go!" (I didn't trust her then) I find driving my BDR a lot like riding a motorcycle too, I just hadn't thought about it that way. I guess people don't see us. I need to take it up on 400 soon, but I'm afraid to drive through ATL!

saps 04-15-2006 03:37 PM

Speedy,
I guess you have to watch out for all the golf carts?

marcocsx3121 04-15-2006 04:19 PM

My wife (9th generation Georgia peach) hates when I say this, but after living in 10 states and a couple of European countries, the drivers in the Atlanta area are by far the worst that I've encountered.

Speedysnake 04-15-2006 04:21 PM

Especially "Mama's" she parks it behind my car, always makes me nervous%/ we're gettin ready to go out this evening, my first night drive!

saps 04-15-2006 05:28 PM

Perfect weather for your first night drive! Enjoy!

ToyCollector 04-15-2006 09:14 PM

I agree with GA drivers (in general) being among the worst, spoken by someone who Avis and Hertz will attest has driven in about 47 of the 50 states. And I don't care what you drive, drive everything like you are on a motorcycle. Wish more people did the same. Ever sit at a stoplight and count how many people who have the green that you are watching have a phone superglued to their ear? 50% usually around north Metro dense populace...this is what I do for fun at reds. I just today saw someone put two wheels off on my street while yapping on the phone. Wish I could rid the world of that vermon. :3DSMILE: Then again, the Mayor of Roswell is a big cyclist and lives off my rode...nah, I doubt he rides on Roswell streets without a police escort.

You guys may be right about the quality of drivers around here. I've driven a lot of different places and it seems to me bad drivers are everywhere. It's always interesting to ride with different people who don't drive defensively. How many times have I been riding with someone who will turn out in front of someone because their turn signal is on...trusting the person is actually turning....

Have you spoken to someone in the grater ATL area lately? You'll be hard pressed to find an Atlanta area native now-a-days. Also - the BIGGEST factor today in accidents is use of a cell phone while driving.

Speedysnake - take Hwy 27 to Hwy 61 N .. and come the long way around it .. :)

Speedysnake 04-16-2006 07:35 AM

SVOBUD,

What about 92? I'm not familar with it north of Douglasville, but it's a decent ride from PTC to I-20.

I took Mama out for our first night ride last night, really cool! Reminded us of our High school days. For once I think she enjoyed it.
