Tires

Anybody have an idea of what is comparable to the Goodyear eagle GT II?

I just called goodyear to buy a set and they don't make them any more.

Three Peaks 06-08-2006 12:32 PM

Yokohama Avid S/T

Alex Donghi 06-08-2006 01:07 PM

Your kidding right??? rice tires on a cobra

Russ Dickey 06-08-2006 01:13 PM

BFG Radial T/A's.

Maybe you should check what the racers are running before you criticize. Most are running Kumho's, Yokohamas, and others. I'm betting most of the Spec racer Cobras are running ricer tires.
Besides, if you were more specific I wouldn't have wasted my time posting.

Good luck with your search

You asked what are comparable, so yea, the Yoko's are out. Their actually quite a bit better than the GTII's.

I like my F1 in 17"

Jim Norris 06-08-2006 11:20 PM

Firehawk Indy 500s are highly rated by the Tire Rack.

Jim is absolutely correct, they grip...........

Man! Ease up on Alex guys. It sounds like someone studied a bit too hard in his or her sensitivity training class. Although I’m certainly not a purist when it comes to authenticity, it is understandable that someone may have a problem with Japanese tires on their Cobra.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who is putting a set of Toyos on a Mercedes tomorrow morning. Happy motoring everyone!

For the record, I have never attended sensitivity training.

Have a nice day.

Tires

A few years ago I bought two sets of BFG T/A's and did not like them. I said I would never buy BFG tires again. Last Nov I ordered a 06 GT Mustang with 18" rims, It came with BFG G-Force tires. I picked the car up drove home and got on the internet looking for some "good" tires. But as I drove the GT I found the G-Force tire performed great. Even in the rain. Great traction in the curves and straight line. Two weeks ago I bought a pair of G-Force Sports for the rear of my Cobra. So far they seem to grip better that the Michelin Pilots I took off. The real test will be the Main Street of London June the 24th!! I need a tire that performs in the rain and on dry pavement. We get caught out in the rain sometimes and need a tire that will get me home safely. I have 16" x 10" rims on the Cobra and it is hard to find a high performce tire in that size. I called Michelin 1 800 number and they helped me find a tire that would work. Michelin bought BFG.
See ya'll in Ohio

My Unique FIA came with Dunlop's. Could not get rid of a shimmy at 65 mph. Several Cobra guys did a lot of tire research and came up with the Yokohama Avid S/T as an increidble tire. Outstanding quality, almost not needing balancing. I bought a set from the Tire Rack, and they have been excellent - no more shimmy - for 5,000 miles. RD

I recently put a set of Kumho Ecsta MX's on my ricer STi.Kumho mades a really nice ricer tire.:)

They were installed by a shop Tire Rack recommended. They had the Road Force balance equipment. This shop mainly deals with high end performance/race BMW's and Porche.

They commented that by far Yoko's (ricer) were the best balanced tire out of the box than any other tire on the market.

And Pirrelli's (non-ricer) were the absolute worst.

There is a huge difference in the abilities of BFG's high performance tires and their standard T/A Radials. The T/A Radial is a hard compound tire that is designed around low cost, high milage and a certain look. Performance is something of an afterthought (reguardless of what there marketing says).

They have made some excellent performance tires in their higher end designs.

I just went to the track this weekend with Radial T/A's and it was a joke, no surprise! I can now drift with the best of em!! I am now looking for something with more grip but am limited with the 15 inch rims.

Alex Donghi 06-12-2006 08:26 AM

Sorry
I thought three peaks was pulling my leg. My cobra has GY GTIIs on it, is not raced and is more of a trailer queen. What I was looking for were more period tires for my 69 Torino GT and thought I would use the same ones as on the cobra as the gravel in my driveway does not stick in the GTII treads. I have found the Goodriches and hope they wont grab my gravel.
Shiloh
I went out once on wet pavement with the GY GTII....It was like a skating rink
PS my G500 came with yoko's ..my 500SL w/ perelli's seems hard to get French tires on an MB
PPS I also like a good Italian joke too (guess what Donghi is)
PPPS I don't use a pseudonym so yall know who I am
Anyway appologies to anyone offended

Alex Donghi 06-12-2006 08:38 AM

Fred
I had the same trouble with the pirrellis that came on my MB but i did get 43K on them. I then went to Michelins tried 8 tires before I found 4 round ones. They would balance but some were eggs.
