Interesting history. Go to Cobra History - Real and Replica. Fun reading and very informative.

That was an interesting read - thanks!

Jurgen Mohr only has the capacity to produce 8 - 10 cars a year, which explains the high price. Similarly Steve Gray can only build 10 cars a year, which is why AC have teamed up with Hi Tech to produce the Mk 11 Classic and the 378 GT Zagato. If they are going to sell 80 cars in the UK and 200 overall across Europe each year, Jimmy White is the key member of the new AC board.

No problem B.M.B.C. Glad you mentioned the connection. Found some good reading and there is more to do.

I'm curious about that too - definitely interested in hearing more. I also want to learn more about the "alucoating". I have heard that its a thin layer of aluminum over the fiberglass, but what process can actually accomplish that, how is it bonded, how durable and how on earth do you repair it?

If it can be left bare and brushed or polished up like a Kirkham, I may get the point; but if not, I really fail to see the justification for the added complication. What advantages does it offer over a real alloy body (much cheaper?) and why would it be more desirable than plain fiberglass unless there's a visible, tangible difference?

more here, assuming tis the same stuff....

ALUCOAT-CS is lacquered foil for the production of semi-rigid containers for food packaging.

- bit like baking foil it seems to me! perhaps thats unkind.

The early prototype of the Mk VI was tested by 'Evo' magazine a few years back and they were mostly impressed.

AC MkVI | Car review | evo

The latest version of the car was seen by the editor of the AC Owners Club magazine at March's Geneva Motor Show. He commented that the finish was comparable to that of an Audi or Mercedes and the driving position with the assistance of electrically operated pedals was excellent.

Just a side note:

There's a Lucra dealer in the 310 area code that has at least 1 AC MkV Carbon Fiber roller. Yes, roller. No paint. Nuttin. The welds are rough but might be a good project for a DIY'er.

At least it was there a year ago and I can't imagine that it went anywhere.

Kev, I stumbled across that site in my efforts to discover more about the process. I'm still left wondering about the technicalities of the application on a fiberglass car body and what's the point of doing it in the first place.

I almost reminds me of the vinyl roof craze that originally was meant to make a sedan look like a convertible with a blatantly fake, permanently erected top.

The AC MkVI is now being offered in 4 versions in France:

The site is impressive. Well done...

Nice video, and as a kit car, well ok each to his own.

But as an AC, with all the heritage that goes with that badge, Im sorry but i absolutely hate it.

If you want a car like that, buy a Dax an build it yourself, or get Dave Brookes in the UK to build you one for $70k on the road. Why would you pay double that just for the badge and some tinfoil on your plastic body.

The GTSR model has gianormous front tire cooling scoops.

I never really thought about it, but back in the 60s where did they traditionally put the navigation system screen? Was it a Lucas unit? And did it have blue tooth capability for hands free calling? :JEKYLHYDE

No third leg on the roll bar!

PANAVIA 03-04-2013 11:25 PM

Well they cant even hook up an LS3 correctly. - I went to the pages and navigated to the engine shot, and they have the PVC hooked up wrong and NOTHING hooked to the MASS AIR SENSOR, which is WAY too close to the throttle body. -- sheesh.

AC MKVI GT Neuve, 134900 euros | Véhicules de prestige

For the Record - LS3, LS7s are fantastic motors - 550HP/550Ft Lbs from something that weighs 390lbs. -- sacrebleu!

KevinW 03-05-2013 03:14 AM

I also see what I think are in-board shocks.

So this car has nothing to do with the original car then, apart from some genetic legacy in the windshield and frontal body area, and a hefty licencing fee to Mr Lubinsky.

Sorry - I hate it.
