Default Rear shock absorbers

What are the recommendation for rear shocks for a 1985 MK IV? My newly acquired car appears to have new(ish) units in front but the rears look like they are 30 year old originals.

The originals were SPAX. Perhaps try them?

Spax list G953 for the front and G952 for the back. Available online in the UK and rather expensive. This is the listing for an original 427 Mark III, as well. Kirkhams have original style rear suspension, I believe. I wonder what they use?

Apparently Kirkhams use non-adjustable Penske shocks as standard and adjustable as a $3K option.

A few years ago I contacted QA1 for recommendations when I went to replace the original shocks on my West Coast Cobra. I already had QA1 coil-overs on the front, so went with QA1 for the rear.

Their technical support folks needed static length, mounting types (e.g. stud, eye) and size, axle weight, mounting angle, etc., then they came up with a recommendation that worked quite well. They can provide single or double-adjustable shocks and I've been pretty pleased with their products.

Initial contact through this form, then email after that: https://www.qa1.net/contact/catalog-request-download
