Most claims are more square like 600/600. Is there a reason this was lower on torque?

It's a more aggressive cam then those types of hydraulic roller builds.

When you choose to put the peak hp rpm higher, it detracts from the lower end power. It's a function of the camshaft and where you want the powerband to be.

This is the power profile Brent and I were going for and it looks like he achieved it perfectly. We wanted the power to come on strong in the mid range, and rev higher than we could achieve with hydraulic lifters. The trade off is some lower end torque but we are traction limited so it shouldn't matter. It's amazing to me that it's possible to build a 482 CI engine that revs past 7100.

There are some 500 CI's that rev to 9500+.

Even more amazing. My daily driver is a 3.0l straight 6 twin overhead cam and redlines at 7000 RPM. *Much* smaller engine, much more modern design.

Either way, it's an angry sounding engine.

Very nice indeed. How long until it's delivered and you can drop it in?

If Brent can ship it mid-week, I'll have it by the weekend of the 25th. I would try to drop in in the following weekend (Feb 1) if my friends are around to help. After that, I still need to order a few parts to plumb the remainder of the fuel system, etc. If all goes well, I *could* have it on the road in February and ready for my VIN inspection before March. That's the goal.

638 hp @ 6600, 567 lb-ft of torque ... that should more than adequate for the task at hand  ... Brent built you a very nice motor indeed!
With great power comes great restraint, be sure you are pointed straight ahead when you put your foot to the floor  ... Give yourself some time to get used to the power and I let us know how you like it.
Look forward to seeing your ERA on the road.

Well done Chas.
You called it a long way out.
Good call lippy on all the choices for your build.
Looks to be a smashing motor for your cobra.
Best wishes.
