Sweet little 427....

I'm doing this one for a road race Galaxie in London. Just real cool parts...thought I'd post some pics.

This is an NOS 427 S/O, using C3 LR heads, and a LR 2x4 intake. That's about where the nostalgia ends. :)

Will be dyno'ing the first week of July...hoping for some healthy numbers.

Sweet, I see $$$$$$$$$$$$$

blykins 06-17-2013 02:00 PM

You an't kiddin'.

Block was over $5k by itself. Oliver rods, custom pistons, EXTREME porting on heads/intake. New carbs. $$$$

Dimis 06-17-2013 02:11 PM

...and beautiful looking valve covers to boot.

You'll have to post some pics when she's all dressed up.
I'm keen to see. :)

Take care

blykins 06-17-2013 02:13 PM

I will. Had to cut the balancer spacer down and have a pulley spacer made, so when it's all together with carbs, etc., I'll post a pic. This was a "rules" engine, with some pretty stupid rules to boot. Running a 391 forged crank with BBC rod journals, Oliver rods, and factory adjustable rockers....hahahaha Valve springs cost more than a billet steel roller cam though, hollow stem Ferrea valves, really small/light ring pack...like "push pistons in with your fingers" light. Cool stuff. :)

What did you get the heads to?

blykins 06-17-2013 03:44 PM

A lot. :D

I like the fact that you're evidently getting an international reputation for quality FE builds.

OK, let's ask another way and ease into it. How big are the valves now?

One is smaller than the other, which makes up for the fact that one is also larger than the other.

I'm not going to give away many details, but ports have been moved around. :). Not a super stock deal, but these are humping along better than some edelbrocks out there.

cute tiny 306

Coming from the world of sports cars, I find it a somewhat amusing that anyone could call a 427 "little". But, more cubes has traditionally been believed to be the path to more power. So, I am wondering what is the largest displacement engine ever put into a Cobra?

Sounds like some AP Math involved there!;)

Well, a lot of small blocks will go up to 460 cubes these days, so a lot of big blocks are getting the "little" status...hahaha

Most of my FE's are in the 482-496 range, doing a 501 for forum member David Wade right now.

Brent: Nice !
I've been looking for valve covers like that, with the hold down bosses up the sides, with no lettering. Where did you get yours ??
Ted

blykins 06-18-2013 05:34 AM

Ted, these are standard issue Blue Thunder competition valve covers. I just had my logo CNC'd into them.

I have two excellent head porters that I work with. I tell them what I need, and they do a wonderful job of making it happen.
