The way I understand the story on the S/C cars is toward the end of Shelby's run at the airport in LA there were thirty 427 comp cars outside the shop. These were the 30cars built in a rush attempt to homologate the cars for the FIA visit. That is a another story. Ford sent some corporate goons to inspect Shelby and they looked outside at all the 427 comp cars sitting around and figured out a way to throw on a windshield and make them streetable. One of those Ford goons made the S/C designation and off they went as fast as possible. As I understand from the show, this was one of those Cobras.

It was actually a Shelby salesman that came up the the SC idea. Not Ford reps.
